Where the size is
Every tyre has its size printed on the sidewall, the side of the tyre you see when you look at the wheel. A typical size looks like this:
- 205
- Tyre width in millimetres
- 55
- Sidewall height as a % of the width
- R16
- Radial tyre for a 16-inch wheel
- 91V
- Load index 91 (615 kg) and speed rating V (149 mph)
Other places to find it
- On the car: many cars have a sticker on the driver's door frame or inside the fuel flap listing the recommended sizes and pressures.
- In the handbook: the tyre section lists the sizes the manufacturer approves.
- Ask us: send us your registration and we'll help you check the right size.
Van tyres have a C
A van tyre size such as 215/65 R16C has a C after the wheel size. That means a commercial tyre with stronger sidewalls and a higher load rating. Always fit C-rated tyres to a van. See mobile van tyre fitting.
Do all four tyres need to match?
Tyres on the same axle should normally be the same size, type and pattern. Some cars have different sizes front and rear. If you're unsure, check the sticker or ask us.
Do the load and speed ratings matter?
Yes. Fit tyres with a load index and speed rating at least as high as your vehicle's manufacturer specifies. Tell us the full size when you get in touch and we'll check it for you.
Not sure? Just ask
You don't need to get it exactly right before you contact us. Call or WhatsApp 0330 043 6598 with your registration and location, and we'll confirm the size and price before we come out to you.
